Updated: Should College Atheltes Get Paid?

Hey guys! I hope everyone is healthy and is not too bored in quarantine! Back in September, I did a blog about whether college athletes should be paid. Back then I thought that college athletes shouldn't get paid but after reading some articles and watching some college athletes on youtube, my opinion has definitely changed.

Recently there have been some articles that emerged stating that in the year of 2021 the NCAA intends to allow collegiate athletes to earn compensation. Back in September I probably would have thought that this isn't right but after really thinking hard about it my opinion has changed. In my previous blog, I said that college athletes shouldn't get paid because they receive scholarships, the best athletic facilities, trainers, and training, they also receive gifts and free merchandise. But when you really break it down they receive many things but they also have lots of restrictions. I stated previously that many collegiate athletes get "full rides" but in reality, only 2% of them do.

During this quarantine, I have started watching many YouTubers and some of those are D-1 NCAA athletes. Many of these athletes are putting in hard work into videos and have hundreds of thousands of subscribers and followers, but do not receive revenue from any of the videos or posts that they are putting out. They are not permitted to work with any brands that reach out to them, they cannot profit over Instagram or posts on other social media platforms. Basically, they do not get rewarded for all the hard work they put in outside of being a college athlete. They put in lots of hard work that should be rewarded with some type of pay. Many people believe that what they do is easy, but managing schoolwork, practices, games, social media, youtube, family friends, etc.. is really not an easy thing especially because some of us can barely handle what we do and we don’t even do half of what they do. I know that college athletes are in college and they are there to learn but the best way to learn is by experience and most of them do this because it is their passion and theyre dream and it is what they want to do in their future. This is why I change my opinion and no believe that college athletes should get paid.

Stay safe and remember:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
College athletes should get paid
Just like you do!

Should College Athletes Get Paid?

Should College Athletes Get Paid? This is an ongoing and never-ending argument. Many people have different opinions, I believe that college athletes should not get paid by the NCAA.  The NCAA brings in about 1 billion dollars yearly. Many people believe that some of that money should go towards paying College Athletes, and I disagree. College athletes gain many things from playing in the NCAA. They are provided with the best training and practice facilities, the best trainers and coaches, gift bags with very expensive gifts, newer housing, and even sometimes full-ride scholarships.  Colleges get the best training and practice facilities that money can buy. College football teams try to equip their programs with the latest and greatest upgrades, the greatest example is the University of Alabama's facilities. They house 37,000-square-feet, $9 million weight room, Tuscaloosa offers everything and more a player needs to succeed. They even have a few waterfalls in the hydrot...
