My Idol: Thayer Hall

Hay guys so in today's blog I'm going to be talking about my inspiration, and who inspires me to be a great volleyball player and person! My inspiration and someone who I look up to is Thayer Hall. Thayer Hall is a volleyball player that I've looked up to for about 2 years now. At the age of 19, she has accomplished so much. She is not only an amazing volleyball player but also an amazing person.

Thayer Hall is volleyball player known for her work with the Florida Gators Volleyball team. At 6’3’’ she is known for being an outside hitter and was named MVP of the Women's Under 20 Pan American Cup after her work with the US junior national team. She is also known for having been honored as the Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year in
January of 2018, and the Max Preps National Athlete of the Year.

Her hard work and dedication is inspiring. Through all four years of high school, Thayer played varsity volleyball and
her freshman year of college at a D1 school she played in the starting lineup and continues to today. Thayer inspires me to not only try to be the best volleyball player I can but to also be the best person I can. She is the perfect example of the fact that you can do it all. In high school, she played a varsity sport, graduated with a 4.94 GPA, managed to have time to volunteer and give back, and got a full-ride scholarship to Florida University.

Something that I learned from her and try to apply is that volleyball is not about yourself, it's about the girl in front of you or beside you. She always says that on the court she is second, and the rest of her team is first.

As a freshman Thayer:

  • Saw action in 26 matches and 100 sets, starting all 26 during her freshman campaign
  • Led the team in kills per set (2.88) and points per set (3.39)
  • Posted a season-best 21 kills against Texas on Aug. 25 After registering 20 kills in the season opener against Nebraska (Aug. 24)
  • She became the first Gator freshman in the Mary Wise-era to record at least 20 kills in a collegiate debut Throughout the first three matches, Thayer recorded 53 kills, which made her the fastest Gator freshman in program history to reach the 50-kill milestone; Aury Cruz and Ziva Recek both reached the 50-kill milestone in four matches
  • Against FIU on Sept. 14, Thayer led the Gators on an 18-point service run (the longest in the rally-scoring era)
  • Finished the season fourth on the team in digs (180) and fifth in service aces (21)
  • Recorded five double-doubles throughout the season
  • Finished the season with 288 kills, 180 digs, 55 digs, 21 service aces and 12 assists

Should College Athletes Get Paid?

Should College Athletes Get Paid? This is an ongoing and never-ending argument. Many people have different opinions, I believe that college athletes should not get paid by the NCAA.  The NCAA brings in about 1 billion dollars yearly. Many people believe that some of that money should go towards paying College Athletes, and I disagree. College athletes gain many things from playing in the NCAA. They are provided with the best training and practice facilities, the best trainers and coaches, gift bags with very expensive gifts, newer housing, and even sometimes full-ride scholarships.  Colleges get the best training and practice facilities that money can buy. College football teams try to equip their programs with the latest and greatest upgrades, the greatest example is the University of Alabama's facilities. They house 37,000-square-feet, $9 million weight room, Tuscaloosa offers everything and more a player needs to succeed. They even have a few waterfalls in the hydrot...

If you are already bored here are some things that you could try doing uring your coronaction.  ARE YOU FEELING BORED OR LAZY DURING QUARANTINE? Something that I have done during this quarantine is rearranged, organized and deep cleaned my room. With “spring cleaning” coming up, you could get a little head start and make sure the space that you now spend lots of time in is a place that is clean and organized. This is something that could take up a good amount of time to keep you entertained for multiple hours or even a few days.   Another very productive activity is to workout.  Over this quarantine, it is very important to stay healthy, and one of ...

Time Managment Skills

Hey guys! Today’s blog is going to be about time management ; how to manage your time and time management skills. I personally struggle with managing my time well, I leave everything off till the last minute even this blog post, haha. I have a very busy schedule and leave most of the things I need to do until the very last minute. So today I will be talking about what skills are required to be a good time manager and how to actually manage your time.  Being a good time manager comes naturally to some but not all, so sometimes you need to talk about the skills needed to manage your time wisely. An important skill to accomplish this is organization . Being organized can reduce the stress and help you maintain a clear picture of what you need to complete and when you need to complete it.
